Ugh, all these amateurs doing Major-General’s Song parodies about millennials with inexact rhymes!!! This is how you do it:

MILLENNIAL:

I am the very model of a modern, gay millennial,

I’ve information useless and anxiety perennial,

I’m treated with suspicion when I’m not outright infantilized

And miffed at how the internet is ever more mercantilized.

I fret about the dangers of calamity climatical,

And get my hands on media in manner most piratical,

I’m practiced in the art of homosexual effrontery—

Effrontery, effrontery, let’s see…yes!

And often made ecstatic by an older woman’s cuntery!

CHORUS:

And often made ecstatic by an older woman’s cuntery,

And often made ecstatic by an older woman’s cuntery!

And often made ecstatic by an older woman’s cunter-unter-y!

MILLENNIAL:

Then I can write a catalogue of epithets Homerical,

And have a handsome person get me nakedly hysterical—

I likely won’t survive to see the U.S. tricentennial,

For I’m the very model of a modern, gay millennial!

CHORUS:

There’s very little chance he’ll see the U.S. tricentennial,

The country won’t last long enough, and he’s a gay millennial!

what farming items in mmorpgs has taught me: i used to think using ice trays to make ice cubes was free but after thinking about it i have to pay the electric bill to power the freezer so every moment that i’m not freezing new trays of ice cubes is a moment that i’m underutilizing the freezer and increasing the cost of ice cubes. i have to constantly swap out ice trays for new ice cubes on an hourly rotation on a 24 hour basis or else i won’t produce the maximum amount of ice cubes possible and will underutilize the full potential of my electric bill. i need to stop using all other appliances and utilities in my home to make more ice cubes

DASHBOARD UNFUCKER V1.0

as 90% of desktop users have probably found out, today @staff released an update that for some insane reason COMPLETELY remodels the dashboard to replicate twitter’s. this is of course in the wake of numerous other thoroughly hated changes and a continued refusal to fix any of the site’s actual problems, half of which stem directly from site management.

HOWEVER, thanks to the power of jQuery, i was able to throw together a userscript that remodels the dashboard back to its original look almost perfectly.

here is my dashboard right now, with the script active:

image

and here is the old dashboard in separate tab container that hasn’t received the update:

image

it’s hardly perfect; i had trouble making it force reload to the fixed layout when switching between other pages and the dashboard, and it currently only fixes just the dashboard. it’s also completely untested on browsers other than firefox, and chances are it looks a bit screwy on ultrawide monitors. but for now at least, it’s a good fix.

the unfucker is a tampermonkey userscript. all you have to do to use it is install the tampermonkey extension, hit “create new script”, and replace the default code on the page with the script (link here) and save it.

On this day of freedom, let’s talk about how bald eagles are queer!

image

It starts with a female eagle named Hope and a male named Valor I. The two settled down to neat together, however Valor I wasn’t a great dad. He did show up to incubate the eggs and basically never came around.

In comes another male, Valor II. He immediately did what a good eagle dad is supposed to, incubate, maintain the best, all that. This lead to him becoming Hope’s new mate.

Here’s where it gets interesting, Valor I didn’t seem to mind and actually stuck around! Eventually Hope started mating with both of them, and Valor I even learned to be a good dad!

image

Unfortunately in 2017 Hope was killed by intruding eagles, but! The two male’s actually stuck together and successfully raised their chicks!

Soon enough a new female named Starr came along and joined the two, and now she mates with both males every season!

This arrangement allows for the eagles to have a much more successful rate of raising chicks and fighting off other predators!

This particular story isn’t the only one! Bald eagles have been seen in multiple arrangements including two females and one male!

Wildflowers of the John Muir Trail

This the finale to our little summer series focusing on a small fraction of the lovely artists books by Peter and Donna Thomas.

This is also my last Miniature Monday post, as I am moving to my new job after graduating this spring. It has been great sharing all these lovely minis, and I am looking forward to seeing those that are posted in the future! –Diane

This wonderful collection of illustrations features plants painted by Donna Thomas while she was hiking the John Muir Trail with Katy McLaughlin.

“They identified these flowers together & Donna painted them on the spot. Donna made this book, using handmade paper made by Peter Thomas. ”–Colophon.

Continuous accordion folded strip made from five sections folded to form forty leaves.

Peter and Donna Thomas are “book artists from Santa Cruz, CA. They work both collaboratively and individually; letterpress printing, hand-lettering and illustrating texts, making paper, and hand binding both fine press and artists’ books.” They have made over 100 limited edition books, often with Peter making the paper, and Donna doing the illustrations.

Check out more of Donna and Peter’s books at Uiowa here.
